What's with all the hype

I like racing games, I'm extremely picky about them but I like them. I had NFS Porsche Unleashed and loved it. I heard the Grand Turismo games where suppose to be even better...okay to compare the two is not fair seeing as NFS was on the PS1 platform and GT3 was on the PS2 but I'm going to anyway since they are the only two racing games I've ever played on the Playstation. While GT3 is visually stunning with sweet looking cars, I couldn't just sit down and get into playing it without having to go through a seemingly complicated start screen. I just want to get in and race, which I could do much easier with NFS Porsche. Once I got started with my car from a wide wonderful selection of awesome cars to pick from I thought wow, this looks so sweet. Then I started playing the game...and that's where it all goes down hill. I felt GT3 controls were difficult no matter how much I tried to get use to them, unlike Porsche I felt was much easier and I was doing 90 degree turns 180 turns and skid control was much easier. With GT3 I was all over the place couldn't make turns very easy, smashing off walls and the brake system was awful. In the end I sold my GT3 game to the local pond shop and kept my Need For Speed to Porsche Unleashed.
