Hey...a racing game where I can't where I can't make a 90 degree turn at 150 mph. Finally, a realistic racer...
Graphics: It was an early PS2 game and it does show its age a little in 2007. Even so, the car models are near perfect and look great. There are no glitches that I could see and the game runs very smoothly. I have only one complaint. That is with the tracks. The tracks look great for the most part. My only problem is when I got a really fast car and took it to the beginner league to destroy the slower cars I noticed how bland the backgrounds of the tracks are. The trees and mountains in the background look like a 5 year old cut them out and pasted them there. Otherwise everything looks great. Score: 9
Sound: Every car has a different sound and I love hearing the sound of a turbocharged engine. When you slide your tires squeal oh so beautifully. Well, needless to say I believe Gran Turismo nailed this aspect of the sound. What I didn't like was the menus elevator music. At least that's what I call it. It kind of annoying after hearing over and over. I also thought the game could use more tracks. I like, for the most part, what is there but I wanted more. At least it's got the west coasts' own Snoop Dogg, with a song made for this game. Sound: 9
Gameplay: The aspect that matters most. First off let me say this is not a game everyone can enjoy. This game will piss you off. If you've played any previous Gran Turismos then you know what to expect. This game is difficult and it does start off slow. But when you learn that you can't fly around turns and you start winning some cash it starts to grow on you. I'll be honest. I started with my Toyota Vitz and I was thinking..." Wow, I'd have more fun driving my uncle's Geo Metro." After playing for a couple hours I started getting more money and winning events, which gave me bonus cars for winning, I really started to get into it. The cars do handle realistically. While not perfect the cars do handle great once you learn how to drive them. For me, it wasn't that difficult since I'm an idiot in real life and I drive to fast all the time. So I know you can't take a 90 degree turn at...umm 100 mph. Oops....anyway...the game is realistic. You have to drive like your driving a real car. You take turns from the outside to inside, drive slow to drive fast, and actually use the BRAKE. ( unlike many racers I've played ) There is a decent number of cars in the game although it's missing key car manufacturers in the game that is important to racing. There are plenty of events to race and lots of cars to win. The tracks don't get old, at least not to me. And it has Rally events in it...which is my favorite aspect of the game. You can also customize your car to make it perform better and the customization has quite a lot of depth to it. If you don't what it's talking about it offers an explanation for everything you buy or do. My only problem with the game is getting licenses to do more events. It's more difficult than anything. Well, at least getting the S License is. Gameplay: 9 I guess the best way to sum this game up is it's one of those love it or hate it deals. It's really up to you. I love it and I recommend this game to anyone who wants some realism with there racing. This game will keep you occupied for a while. I've had it for 2 months and I'm just now getting down to the final races.
