More than a Upgrade to GT 3
User Rating: 9.4 | Gran Turismo 4 PS2
I feared that GT4 was just GT3 with bells and whistles. It's proved me wrong. There is so much to do with the excellent new features. The photo mode can occupy much of your time. I like to take some choice pictures and watch the slide show when I'm done racing for the day. The mission and special condition halls offer a change of pace that can earn cash and cars. B-Spec is more of a challenge than it first appears to be. It's not just a lazy way to race. Early races may be easy to B-spec, and some endurance races as well. Other races require precise direction of your driver. B-spec also gives you a reason to play through this game twice. A-spec is even better, of course, and even better than it used to be. The driving feels much better. The cars respond so well, and give you plenty of feedback from every bump and bend in the road. Subtle tuning adjustments really make a difference that you can feel. The tracks are more detailed and enjoyable(they made some slight tweeks to some of the old favorites). It used to feel like a car didn't want to turn even a apparently slow speeds(causing extra difficulty navigating a track). The the feel, the visual, and the speedometer match. It's a pleasure to drive these cars. License tests even have some new twists in execution and rewards. They are still more challenging than many of the races though. Overall, this game is a new and great game when you dive beneath the surface. Don't fear that this is a rehash. I'm sure that I'll find more new and welcome features when I turn it on next.
