GT4 is the best racing simulator up to date. It is personally my favorite, but does have its downfalls so i'm goin to start with the good stuff. Theres cars, lot of cars so many to choose from. The first time i poped this game in i spent about 15 mins just lookin at the car and theres a lot. And as i noticed they brought the used auto car selection back, so only having 10k i bought a used car. I raced and notice something different, the physics which by the way are absolutly insane! they are much more simulated than the previous titles. Then i noticed another thing the sounds which were near perfect, way better than gt3. They did get rid of that annoying tire squeel that they used to use, so they fixed that. The graphics are top notch and could even rival some pc games because of how sharp the picture looks. The car reflections are much more advance, you'll be able to see the scenery refracting on the car which really brings the cars to life. Along with the great reflections and shadows the scenery is obviously excellent which it is way beyond any other console game that i've come across. Which brings me to the conclusion of the tracks in the game, the tracks are awesome, they got more real life tracks such as nurburgring (my favorite), fuji speedway, infieon, and more all of which look very good. Now the disadvantages of this great title. Lets put it this way no game is perfect, the game in my opinion is just more of the same. Why i say that is simple because every title that has come out hasn't done anything that is innovative or revolutionary its just updated graphics and usually more cars. And also what happen to the racing mods a lot of us miss so much. Ok i can see why you would want to mod your car, but its pointless considering you can't make it look like it has 500hp or what you have in it, but what my point is the moding is just pointless. And another thing, they still didn't fix the front wheel drive physics. Most of the front wheel drive cars still over spin more than they should because honestly i bought a dodge neon srt-4 just for the heck of it because i knew the car can do 60mph from 0 in just 5.8secs. The fastest i could get the car was only 7.3 with traction control, see my point. Oh and about the traction contol, for cars in real life that don't have traction control that are in the game shouldn't have traction control. And wheres the smoke the tire marks in the game, the game looks so beautiful that sometimes i just want to do burnouts, but their too bland. Thats another thing to, since theres no smoke and tire marks the game just feels plain sometimes, what it feels like sometimes is just car and road. You don't want to just feel car and road in a game, you want to feel and see that rubber get painted to the road, you want to see that smoke pour out from under the car and you don't get that in this great racer and from the first title till now its been the same deal. And another complant along with the physics, i bought a tvr tuscan speed 12 and i know in real life like all tvrs this car has no traction control. I turned off the traction control and the car still would not stop spinnin the tires, there is nothin you can do about it. And still no option to turn off ABS or atleast have the physics of lockup for cars that don't have the feature. And like i said before theres a lot of cars, which is true, but some of them are the most pointless ones in the game. For example, a volvo estate 240, wtf?'. I do understand that the game was made off a timeline of automotive history so don't get me wrong. The creator of this game said that the cars in the game have made some kind of impact in history or have set world records like, most sold, or record laptimes, things like that. And what i still don't understand is why the @#$% do they have so many skylines, I can tell you right now there is no way that almost every skyline in history as made an impact in the world. Most of the people that i know don't even know what a skyline is. And its the same thing with mazda rx7's too. But anyway let me talk about laptimes. The laptimes and how realistic their suppose to be is a myth. A bmw m3 csl in real life can get a nurburgring time of just under 8mins. In the game i managed (w/o TCS) to get around the mid 7's which is totally off, a porsche carrera GT can get a lap time around the o'l ring in just 7mins 28secs. And its like this with all cars. And another thing that i can't stop thinkin of is the A.I. which by the way is horrible. The AI only drives in its normal race patern, so if you're on the inside of the AI when you're just entering a turn, the AI will smash into you cause you to either go off the track or sometimes even causing you to spinout. And the 5 second penalities, just so pointless. They use the penalities only for the special condition, but its the most pointless thing when the AI turns in to you and you get the penality. Alright I'm done making complaints because most of these problems are caused by retrictions the ps2 has with its underpowered specs. None of these complaints should cause you to not buy the game though because this game is still very good, but its just not up to my expectations so play it how it is because it truely is a game that is remarkably value for money. I look forward to what they have waiting for us in the near future on the PS3.
