Fast cars and incredible graphics combine to form a great racing simulator.
User Rating: 9.1 | Gran Turismo 4 PS2
This has to be one of the best looking driving simulators out there. With tons of realistic cars and tracks, this game will surely impress any car enthusiast. Polyphony Digital has improved the game in many ways. There are more cars, more tracks, and a lot more driving. There are some new features in the game such as B-Spec mode, where the CPU drives for you. It lets you coach the driver, telling him how fast you want him to go and when to make a pit stop. This will come in handy for endurance races if you don’t have the patience to sit through an entire 24 hour race. The new photo mode is great for showing off some of your newly won cars. You can make your photos look so incredibly realistic to the point where it looks as if it was taken with an actual camera in real life. The physics are another thing that makes this game so much more realistic. You’ll notice your car moving up and down as you shift and brake, as well as it swaying from side to side on each turn. As for the game music, this game could have had better tracks to race to. There’s nothing better than being in a race and having some good music to listen to. Polyphony has given us loads of new cars and tracks. We still get most of the old tracks from GT3, but these have also been improved. The tracks are now a lot bigger such as the Nurburgring track that’s 13 miles long, which is pretty big for being in a game. Another cool part about GT4 is that we now get to drive in cars from the 50’s and 60’s, as well as the old 1908 Ford Model T and some other vintage cars. Many of the car models are now more detailed and look much better than GT3. Now, for the graphics. The graphics in this game are incredible coming from the PS2. You’ll see that the real-time reflections are still intact from GT3. The car detail is done well, especially with the older cars. The new tracks also have a fine amount of detail to them. It’s nice to see that there is an actual driver in the driver seat this time around, as well as the choice to put the top down on the convertibles. The driver’s movements are very fluid, and he looks almost as real as the car. GT4 looks great on HDTV, with either 480p or 1080i. Even though the graphics look a little jaggy in high definition, it still makes everything look much clearer than it normally would be on a regular TV. If you enjoyed GT3, than you would definitely want to get this. I could go on forever about how great this game is, but you really have to see for yourself to appreciate it. With more features, more cars, and better physics, it’s guaranteed to keep you busy for a long time.
