Great game that recaptures the magic of GT2.
I - Racing games that were pre GT
II - Racing games that were post GT
That's the impact the series has had on console racers. GT4 is no different. It expands on GT3 by offering a larger number of cars, a larger variety of cars, a larger number of tracks and improved graphics.
But the most noteable improvement in GT4 over GT3 is the handling physics. Its almost like they have been given a complete overhaul. Cars understeer more and braking effects cornering more.
The track selection is great, especially the Nurburgring. It is a tremendous buzz driving on that circuit, and a real accomlishment when you finish a lap.
The cars can be customised more than GT3, and the inclusion of the driving missions is a nice touch.
Overall, this game is great, but there are several drawbacks.
B-spec mode is a waste of time, and provides an easy way (read: cheating) to win long distance enduros. Select a fast car, and play the race in B spec mode. You only need to check on your driver everynow and then.
The AI has not been improved, crash modelling and damage is also non-existant (due to the manufacturer's reluctance to have their babies looking beat up) and the crach physics are still the same as GT1 (read: bad).
Still, its probably the best console racer to date.
