The best racer ever....

User Rating: 9.6 | Gran Turismo 4 PS2
When I got my PS1 many years ago, my first game was the original Gran Turismo. I love cars, racing, Ive even been to a car exhibition. I put my love of cars all down to this car game series.

Many other car racing games come out, but I will never be interested because I have Gran Turismo. The amount of cars in GT4 is amazing, 700. You can find cars from 2005 (there is one 2006) all the way back to the first Mercedes Wagons in the 1800's.

There is a great variety of choice.. you can race round in a car like a Citroen 2CV which red lines at around 50mph, or a 1000bhp+ racing car.. topping out at upwards of 250mph. It really is up to you. The events will start easy so you can start earning some easy cash, with which you can modify your cars to make them faster for a better event.

Rallys are back, and a new race type included with GT4 is ice racing. You can use your rally cars, but you will need to equip them with special ice tyres so you can deal with the very slippery surface. If you thought the endurance race section in earlier games were tough, you havent seen nothing yet. You can start with a measly 200 mile race which takes about two hours to complete.. or you can try out one of the three, 24 hour endurance races. These 24 hour races will take place on two versions of the Sarthe Le Mans race track, and the punishing German Nurburgring, which has around 270 corners per lap.

But if you really dont want to do the whole 24 hours by yourself.. then you can try out another new feature called B-Spec. You can take control as race director for your computer driver and give him a range of instructions like go faster or slower, pit in and so on. Speed of the race can be turned up 3x so you dont have to wait for a whole 24 hours. But dont worry, you can make your driver pit in and you can switch back over to A-Spec mode and driver yourself if you want a bit of the action.

Now I come to yet another new feature, Photo Shoot. You can take any of your cars to a location around the world, like Las Vegas, and take a picture of it. You can move the car, camera and fiddle with a wide range of lens and focus options to have your car looking at its best.

Most of the old favourite tracks are back, like Trial Mountain and Grand Valley Speedway. New tracks are also available, and this totals to about 50 tracks for you to have fun on.

GT Auto is also back.. you can wash your car, change its oil, buy new alloys or add a wing to increase downforce.

You wont find another racer as deep or as spectular as this game, lets just hope next time we can take on the world through network play.
