below par game from an excellent software team.
dont you just hate it when a major player in the games world comes out with the words " and our next installment in the series will be better than the previous ". well, for polyphony digital, you would expect nothing less.
the gran tourismo series has been the biggest selling video game for the ps platforms to date. and most of the follow up's have recieved tender love and attention, which, makes them superb games to play.
as for this installment, all i can say is that it add's very little
to the world of gran tourismo and actually subtracts from the gameplay
side of things.
now, i havent played the full finished version of gt4 yet ( its 2009 buddy, get on it ) but if this prologue is anything to go by, i wont be buying it ( and this is the reason i still havent bought it, even if it is the year 2009 ).
whats wrong with it?
simple. take out what makes the game a sucess and everything goes downhill. in other words, polyphony digital has messed with how the cars handle and it now feels like a cheap knock off of the real gran tourismo games.
for me gran tourismo 3 a-spec was the best installment these guys ever made. when you see the arrival of gt4 prologue , you'd at least expect better graphics and a vast array of tracks. well no, the graphics actually look worse than gt3 and the new tracks you do get to play on, like new york for instance, are so bloody dark and grainy that it makes the game unplayable and you end up smashing the walls because you couldnt see that corner coming up.
while the cars are given the usual gloss over, it looks like the software team took a break on this one or they are just chucking out bits of " this is what we're thinking of doing in the future, do you like ? ".
well, i dont.
and bring back feeder tracks. this game is not gran tourismo without them.
