This game may be one of the best on PS2, but it does not appeal to everyone. READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU BUY IT

User Rating: 9 | Gran Turismo 4 PS2
THE GOOD:
#An overwhelming choice and variety of cars, tracks and race events
#Unrivalled graphics and realism

THE BAD:
#Where are the real cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche?
#The grown-up approach to racing might put EA fans off

RECOMMENDED FOR: Die-hard realism lovers

The number crunchers of this game are enough to sell it to you on their own: SEVEN HUNDRED CARS and FIFTY tracks. But what's it really like, underneath the box art?
The first thing you will notice when you load it up is choice. There are more cars lined up for you to buy than most other games have in total! Then, when you try your first race, you will see that the graphics are sensational. I honestly do not know another PS2 game that even rivals them. At times it's like you're watching the race on TV, that's how good they are.
After a while, you will see just how many races there are to complete too, as well as licence tests and driving missions. You would have thought that with this amount of things to do in a game, it will start to get repetitive. But not in GT4. This is the sort of game that you will take months to complete then be happy to start over without the usual 'been there, done that' side-effect.
However no game in the world can appeal to everyone, and this is no different. Because this game takes such a grown-up approach to racing, people who are into arcade-style games such as the NFS series will probably find it too boring.
However if you are the opposite and dislike EA games for their lack of realism, this really is the game for you. I would say the only real downside to this game is the severe lack of any well-known supercars. The only ones that you may know are the Mercedes SLR Mclaren and maybe some RUF cars. This can be enough to put a lot of people off, and it is a great annoyance for anyone who does like it.
In conclusion then, if you don't mind the lack of supercars and love realism, this is the game for you. If you don't, I would avoid it.
