Well like most Gt fans ive been waiting for this game with baited breath for many years now and finally it is here. And from my brief time with the game little over 10 hours i can safely say it is the king of Racers. Several reasons for this assumption! firstly it looks stunning almost all of the time (ill come to this later) The depth and bredth of the cars available is astounding, some people are not happy about the PS2 HD upscaled standard cars and say they dont look good, and to a point theyd be right but when a game is pumping over a 1000 cars youve got to get real, it would have took another 10 years to model them all in pristine Premium detail. And for me they look just fine anyway. The sheer amount of options and modes available, cater for every racers whim. Now for some of the bad stuff, i can fully see why the game has took this long to make and its simply because of optimization. Theyve pushed the graphics a little too far, running the 1080p resolution albeit an upscale of 1280 x 1080 and the amount of cars on screen plus damage and 60 frames per second has left the programmers with next to no room for a frame buffer / (Vsync) so there are not only screen tearing issues but also frame rate drops too. Not deal breakers but all the same, an imperfection that wouldnt usually be tolerated by Polyphony. A mention must go to the 3D, which is a real mixed bag of hit and miss in terms of Crosstalk. Now on my tv which is a Sony hx803 the replays are fine but in game! especially cockpit view are riddled with crosstalk and no matter what settings you use, its still there, hopefully an update will nullify this somewhat. The headtracking works sometimes, i dont know if its just applicable to certain premium cars or whether the system simply does't pick up my head. But it doesnt always work which is a real shame. Taking these minor quirks into consideration ive marked this down from a perfect ten, however please dont let this stop you from buying the game because even with these minor quirks it is without doubt head and shoulders above any racing game ever made. Thanks to Polyphony and Kazanuri Yamauchi for your dedication and hard work....long may it continue.
First off. GT5 guaranteed 1,000+ cars. They never said they would all be full out detailed cars. It would make no sense for them to do that as in actuality I HIGHLY doubt you'll even drive every one of the 200 premium ca... Read Full Review
