Gran Turismo for the psp? It was a pretty good Idea but...
Gran Turismo for the psp is a good game but It could be better. There's some things that Sony could've done to make this game better (I'll mention these things later on in this review). Here are some pros and cons:
Pros: just plain fun, graphics are ok but could be better, multiplayer (you'll see this in cons also and I'll explain why), this little puppy packs 800 real world cars, you can share and trade cars, it includes 35 tracks with 70 variations, it's cheap
Cons: Multiplayer, the way you buy cars is kind of crazy, you can almost too easily get credits. It maybe good for some but I like to be challenged a bit. Cockpit view is a black shape of the windshield, no career mode, and no damage to cars.
Ok first off, the only reason I put multiplayer in the pros and cons both is because for one, it only allows Ad-Hoc mode. It lacks infrastructure mode- meaning you can't play across the world with this thing. You can trade cars and stuff but you can't play infrastructure.
On the credits part, like I said earlier, it's almost too easy to gain credits.
When it comes to buying a car-
You know how when you go into some restaurants, they have some meal or side, or dessert called lets say, dessert of the day? Well that's pretty much what you get when you buy a car on this thing. You can choose from 3,4, or 5 different car makers A DAY and choose what car you'd like. The car companies change everyday. Quitting the game totally and then starting it up again trying to change the car companies won't work (trust me I've done it before).
Ok yes I know that this is the psp version so it can't do everything that the ps3 version does but if they was going to make the cockpit just all black, It would've been better for them to leave the cockpit view out if they wasn't going to design the inside. I'm not saying it has to be the prettiest but it would've been nice. They either could've done that or at least give the cockpit a generic look and have the same look in every car.
Having to see your car damage from running into walls and accidentally running into opponents would've been nice but it's not a big deal to me. I would've still liked to have it though.
There is no career mode in it like the other GT games. All you get is the driving courses, time trials, and regular race modes.
Gran Turismo is somewhat bittersweet to me. It's a little disappointing but it's still a good game. For just $20? It's worth buying. Being a fan (like myself) of the series, you'll like it. And it also has free DLC. So that's a plus.
I give it an overrall score of: 7.9 out of 10.
