Nostalgic and refreshing look that brings us back to GTA II, but it may not appeal to fans who started with GTA III.

That's me. I started with GTA III and I loved the city, the 3D graphics, the 3rd person view and the radio stations. I don't know, maybe GTA Chinatown Wars as a DS port has limitations, but it sure limits some features that made it fantastic. Like for instance, the radio stations only has songs, most just ambient music without lyrics, and little to none of those hilarious talkshows. So, a little boo boo to the audio features.

The graphics are nostalgic GTA II top-down view style, which still works very well in terms of navigation, just that the graphics didn't stand out this way. Gameplay is fun, but not as original and varied as those in the Liberty City and Vice City series I find. Missions still spread out well between driving and gunfights though, and the sniper missions are especially fun to do.

Side tasks often involve driving around trading drugs stock-market style and looking for weapons in dumpsters. There's this security cameras around the map that you need to destroy and it took me long to find out it's sort of the equivalent to the hidden packages features in previous GTA series, but I didn't manage to discover their rewards. However, there are bonus missions too that don't "come to you", and it's fun to discover what's up with that. All in all, GTA Chinatown Wars is a fun game for first time players of the series, but as a fan (from GTA III), I still find it a little letdown.
