Ah, Liberty City. Never changes.
Ah, Liberty City. The town never changes. I come into the street, I've got my past hangin' on me like a freaking doorknob, I've got no place to stay. I'm Mike, and I'm a nobody. Nobody's heard of me before, I'm new to the area, see. I start messin' around, seein' what kind of stuff you can pull in the big-time, when I get into some trouble.
Boys and girls, this ain't the playground kind of trouble. This is the kind of trouble where your daddy comes home from work and starts writin' his will. People get hurt, people disappear. That's how it works when you mess were you ain't supposed to be. Well, I was lucky. Vinnie pulled me out from the small time and smack dab in the middle of the happening, right in the heart of the town. Vinnie's my mentor, my man, and I'd swear by him.
Well, I would swear by him…if…
It was our last mission, and we were gonna call it quits. Years of experience finally paid off, we had made enough to get out of that blasted city and into a nice, quiet life of calm. No more of this crime business…it gets too dirty, you get that feeling like when you're kidding a tattoo from Mama. You can't run from it. So, naturally, we set it up, we were going to do this last one and then move outta town. But something went wrong. Horribly wrong.
So here I am in this town, finding who killed Vinnie in the car bomb. And when I find them…well, boys and girls, cover your ears, because there ain't gonna be a bulletproof vest or any bodyguards to block all the lead I'll pump into that blasted…
Come on, get in the car. We have some sightseeing to do.
What do you mean, "Is this your car?" Come on, this is Liberty. Liberty to do what you want, when you want. Man, that brings be back to my days when I'd just run around town, squashing civilians and stealing cars. You know, anarchy never fells so dang good. You can do whatever you want 'round these parts, of course 'til the coppers come and bust you back to prison. But you know, it's great here. Roam wild, no need to try and see what's going on.
Of course, if you want motivation, it's all here. You've got tons of bosses and dealers ready to take your gander at your services, all willing to fork over their dough. Use that dough to make your places the best, with more weapons, cars, houses, you name it. Sometimes those bosses ain't so understandable, but those are few and far between.
Of course, if you want to help me with Vinnie's revenge, that's always an option. Going wild all the time ain't the coolest thing to do. I'll keep you busy for a while myself, but once you're done you can drive around town to your heart's desire. We might get into a pickle, though, so don't expect a smooth ride.
It ain't always super fun 'round here, though. See, sometimes I feel like I can only see what's right around me, and that makes it hard to see where I'm goin'. I crash into stuff that I don't want to, because I can't see what's coming, or even who I'm running over with my car. And sometimes it slows down a bit when there's too much going on, if you know what I mean.
Otherwise, it looks mighty fine out in Liberty, and I must say, it's a great place to see it all. It all looks so vibrant 'round here, ya know? Like it's all filled with things to see. It might look similar after a while, but it sure looks nice. 'Specially when cars flip over.
Oh, shut that fracking radio off! I hate the sounds around this place, though. The radios have some odd voices coming out of them I never understand…yes, I'm stopping at that red light, hold on…there. But with all the cops and people and cars and crap, this city just gets too hard for the ears, because it all sounds the same. I'd turn it all off if I could.
You thinkin' 'bout moving here, you said? I'd say go for it. It's a nice big city, fulla stuff to do, and it sure is fun just messin' with the folk. There's plenty of things to do for a good player, and you'll be hangin' around for a while.
Yeah, this city is great. Liberty City…never changes…
