If you are a gamer, you've undoubtedly heard of the Grand Theft Auto, not being a hard core fan I'll explain. The GTA series is a hyper popular sand-box games. That's pretty much it. A lot of people say GTA San Andreas was the last good GTA, but I think it all went downhill after Vice City (Just remember this is my opinion and it is not a fact). Now onto GTA 4. First off, the game is beautiful. Period. The amount of detail throughout this world is breathtaking, its without a doubt a technical achievement. This is where it starts to go downhill, with any technical achievement generally comes a realistic physics engine. And, to put it bluntly, sand-box games don't mix with realistic physics, not in this slightest. For me this was almost a game killer, give me realistic physics in a sandbox and you've already lost me. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Lets move onto the characters. The characters, at least for me were a little to goofy and hammed up. Its like the Godfather movies, they get tons of praise yet the Godfather seemed like something straight out of a cartoon. The Same applies here.
The Story. Oh god. This is perhaps the most overrated aspect of the game. I'm not going to go into it, if you want the story play the game. However, it is very predictable and takes quite a while to get interesting in the slightest. In fact that's one of my main problems with this game, it takes quite a while to get interesting. The sand-box element is broken, and they managed to kill the feeling of a GTA game for me.
Minimal customization options, broken sand-box, well written dialog, and a predictable story. This game is a mess. Did it do anything right? Well I have to be honest here, aside from the visuals, the multiplayer, I think is very well done and a very fun aspect of the game. But with the amount of pointless features, and along with the other problems I've listed, I feel this is not only the absolute worst GTA game but also a candidate for the most overrated of all time. It really makes me wonder what game these reviewers played, because I really wish I had played that instead of this awful mess. 4/10.
After Note: After finishing writing my review, I had a look at some other reviews and I was shocked how many people didn't like this game. Fair enough on the face of it, I can understand but then the review is like 1 par... Read Full Review
