The game really offers a lot and it's purely enjoyable with quite a selection of vehicles, guns, and digital people to run over or obliterate! The game itself starts off very well, characters are introduced in a funny, sarcastic and slightly stylized way. While doing missions, you meet more characters, hear their stories, learn what twisted (abnormal?) they really are.
As the game goes on, the cut-scenes may start losing their charm, because all you start hearing is two men conversing about a job and eventually parting.
The world in GTA4 is very lively. People look pretty much natural, doing their every-day things when you suddenly ram into them with your fancy 1980's Mustang! There's patrolling policemen, gangs, and be careful when you're pointing your gun at some fancy-suit fat guys or they will take their cannons out and show what real gangsters are.
During different hours of the day, you get different numbers of people hanging around at different places, making it feel realistic.
The graphics really have jumped and pushed the limits. Cars get scratched, dusty, properly mashed when you hit something, blood is left splattered on the car. After you use the car wash in the game, they come out really shiny and reflects the surrounding world which makes them look absolutely astounding! Atmosphere effects, with shadows or just sunlight create a realistic look and feel of an actual city.
Great game, worth the time and money. Make sure you got a controller to play it with! Although a keyboard with a mouse may work just as fine.
Why the 9.5 rating if the game is so fun, you may ask? Simple answer – compatibility issues.
