When Rockstar announced a GTA was in the works for PSP message boards everywhere began to chatter. Can it be done or is Rockstar full of themselves? Rockstar promised Liberty City in all its 3D glory...The ENTIRE islands of Liberty City. Naysayers doubted. Look who got the last laugh. The GTA 3 inspired Liberty City is in the palm of your hand. Just stopping to look around at the city makes you think "wow this whole urban environment on this little thing." The graphics are solid with a little bit of slow down but that can be forgiven considering what it's running on. Gameplay is spot on, the controls feel alittle awkward at first. The hardest thing to get used to is the analog nub, you do have the ability to change movement to the D pad but the nub feels better. The targeting system is nothing to write home about but given the limited set of buttons, it works. All of the side missions are here, even a few new ones. Car Salesman comes to mind. It's basically like the taxi missions except you don't have a destination and you have to drive a certain way for certain customers. The Voice acting is superb, depending on how big a fan you are of GTA 3 you will notice a few voices of returning characters have changed. The biggest of which is that Michael Madsen didn't return as the voice of Toni Cipriani(main character). This bugged me alittle but I got over it. The radio stations are also excellent dispite the fact that I've never heard of any of the bands palyed on the game radio but that don't bother me at all since I only listen to the talk station anyway. Multiplayer is in full swing in this game. There are several modes of play, the names of these modes escape me at the moment, but they all involve killing the other players. A few tech specs real quick before I finish up, you do need the 2.0 update to play(game comes with it), I have seen a few complaints that people cant downgrade after upgrading, these are coming from people who hacked their PSP and stuffed it with Homebrew, oh well tough sh*t, serves you right hacker. Another this is the load times. Not bad at all. The startup load is between 5 to 10 seconds tops, and everyload after that is nor more than 3 seconds. When all is said and done, and the smoke has cleared, this game is definatly worth the purchase. Any PSP owner owes it to himself to buy this game, espescially if you still have doubts about the capabilities. This will erase all doubts. Welcome to the next generation of handhelds, welcome to Liberty City.
