If you like GTA games, you know they always end up being fun, and VCS is no exception....
However, the GTA games to me have always just been fun. A lot of people simply can't stand the GTA formula, citing it as being just a bunch of minigames thrown together. I can understand that argument, but I still have fun playing GTA games, and GTA:VCS is no exception. And while nobody will call this game "Revolutionary," it's still a fun portable experience and lives up to the GTA name.
Standard-issue GTA gameplay------stealing cars, random mayhem, acquiring new properties, exploring the world, and embarking on perfectly-paced mission for a portable game. The GTA formula is just so perfect for portable gaming, and VCS delivers more than LCS for several reasons, even if the core experience is nearly identical. First of all, Vice City is simply a lot more fun and interesting than Liberty City has ever been. In the same way as GTA:LCS was instantly familiar to anyone who had played GTA3, this game uses the exact layout of Vice City, and I just can't get enough out of it. I played the original Vice City game on the PS2 more than any other game in the series. The design, the 80's theme, the music, it just makes the whole experience more fun.
The graphics are pretty much on par with GTA:LCS which is to be expected, but the sound in VCS has really gone on top of LCS a bit. There is much better voice acting, not just in the delivery and the writing, but in that the missions and story actually do correlate with each other. I don't want to spoil any plotlines from VCS, but if you played LCS you might remember that the missions and the story didn't really sync up so well, especially when compared to other GTA games. But VCS not only has a better story overall with more elaborate cutscenes and dialogue, it also makes the missions seem much more relevant to what's going on in the story. With that said, it's still a GTA game-------it can get old, or it can always be engaging, you really get out of it what you want. Is it BETTER than the other GTA games? No, not really, even though Vice City is much more fun than Liberty City. But is that so bad? It reminds me of Tony Hawk games--------I love them, I buy them all, and it doesn't take huge changes for me to buy the next game------all I need are new levels and goals. And GTA is the same way for me----I don't expect a new targeting system, entirely new gameplay elements, even new weapons. All it takes to hold my interest is more missions and more things to do, and GTA games always have that much going for them with every single release. If you like GTA games and you have a PSP, GTA:VCS is a great bang-for-your buck experience and is at least a little bit more fun than LCS. I have completed the main story but I'm still having plenty of fun in Vice City...
