Okay, we’ve gone back in time to the 1980’s to see where it began. The game still uses its brilliant 3D free roaming world, letting you explore to your hearts content. The on-foot controls are still a bit odd with the 3rd person perspective camera flicking about.
The 1980’s theme is brilliant as it harnesses the cool chilled out tunes whilst you don your cool dude shades and hip Hawaiian shirt. Sit back, relax and enjoy the sunset people you’re in for a great adventure.
Starting off you now live out of a Hotel, but not to wory as you’ll soon acquire your own house. But it doesn’t stop there, as in Vice City it is part of your objective to acquire property, many of which will earn you money. Capitalising on the adult theme of these games, one of the sweetest places to own is your very own strip club. Unlock the rest of the islands and land your self the car shop and have an endless supply of cars once you’ve completed the races.
Now lets not get bogged down with buying property, this game now sports some flashy new cars for you to smash up about the city. However the game has a dare-devil addition, bring on the bike. The two wheels fun is a fast way to get about the city and a great way to execute those stunt jumps, however, make a mistake and expect a long painful fall as you skid across the tarmac road. Ditch the sports bike and nab your self a dirt bike and pop some wheelies or stoppie stunts. The game exploits the humor aspect and has some new quirky additions too – in the form of a Golf Cart; so pop down the local golf course and swipe a golf club so as you can steal a buggy to tour the island.
That’s not the best bit yet, oh no. The best way to get about this city is by air –knowing no bounds, it’s the Helicopter. Once you have mastered the controls, flying through the skies has got to be the coolest thing to do. However this mode of transport can make some of the missions’ way too easy.
The game has had to make all the building solid so as you cannot fly through them and this takes up valuable memory. In addition, you obviously want some large maps to fly about, so that’s just what they did, made a great big map. Here is the problem, the three islands are split up by bridges and this is where you experience the dreaded loading screens.
Now pop into one of the solid building and explore, all be it in the odd building. One place to get attention is entering a police station, so expect a gun fight a police chase when you run for it. However a great way to loose your wanted level is to don some new cloths. Get to your house and change your outfit.
The voice acting is much the same and the story line is no better. The music helps to set the scene with some classic hits from the 80’s.
You know this game is great value for money with hours, weeks or months of play to be had. The GTA series just got better.
