An infection, not infectious.
The battle system is satisfying throughout most of the game, but when you get to the end, it is infuriating. With the first few boss battles, the way you're practicing canceling you think that this'll be one of the best ideas in the game. And true, it does save you a fair bit of hit points. Unfortunately, your characters do not remain relatively fast compared to your opponents.
This holds true for the rest of the game, music, characters, plot, it's all best in the beginning and is building you up for a huge let down. Why? Because it all becomes really standard.
Except for the dialogue, and that becomes substandard. Not just bad, but really bad. A prominent webcomic poked fun of the constant use of elipses for one of the character's signature dialogue. I, on the other hand, find the gasping to be far worse. Everytime you get a certain type of key item, the party gasps in unison. By the fourth time you'd think they'd be less surprised and awed.
My largest frustration by far is the learning curve. The game is easy, up until a certain point. Then you become much weaker than most enemies you face. Each battle drains resources.
And another thing, the number generator of the game must hate me. I don't think I got a single rare item which seems to be the point of doing arial finishers. To be fair, I never got the skill to up item drops...which is kind of frustrating by itself.
