Not the best I've played, but far from the worst. JRPG fans will love it, but Western RPG fans beware
User Rating: 8.3 | Grandia III PS2
Grandia III is a very good game, with excellent graphics and sound, yet the cliches are a bit overused. You play a happy-go-lucky boy that just wants to be a pilot, and when he first flies his home made ship he sees a priestess being attacked and like the good samaritan he is, he tries to help her. Several hours later you find out that her brother is killing of these ancient guardians of the worlds, and lo and behold you must stop him. However unremarkable the story may be, the game shines in its battle system and its graphical quality. Looking at this game on a HD tv, and you would swear that you are watching 360 game, not a PS2 one. Some of the spells are so well animated and take so long it is like watching a mini-cutscene when you cast them. Unlike most other JRPGs the battle system is more tatical than the traditional turn-based battle system where you are managing the location of your characters for their optimum attack and to avoid mass damage via area effect spells and abilities, while trying to time your mass effect spells to hit the most amount of enemies with a single blow possible
