For fans of the Grandia series, this game won't let any down.

User Rating: 6.5 | Grandia III PS2
I have been a Square fan for a long time, and when they merged into Square-Enix, things (for me) have changed a bit, but I still pride myself to buy their games. I'm really not a Grandia fan, but like I said, I still buy all of SE's games.
Grandia III tells a story about a 16 year old kid (they get younger these days don't they) named Yuki. He is a inspiring pilot, who, of course, wants to see the world. Along the course of the 2 disc game, you will encounter new friends, enemies, and new weapons, gear, you know the works.
The battle system is really easy to learn. It's kinda like a wheel with your normal attack, magic, special moves, etc. Their's a attack called a critical attack, which 'cancels' the enemies powerful moves, magic that will harm you in battle. This system works well with a lot of enemies on the field because when it's 5 or 6 against your party or 3 or 4 depending where you are in the game, it's really hopeful. When you want to execute a critical attack, a cursor highlights the enemy for the attack. You can switch enemies, and when you do, it tells you whether its going to just attack or do its magic spell or special move.
As the game gets along, of course the enemies get harder, and it's really time-consuming to level up. Some RPG players hate this, but I think it's a good thing, so you can learn your new moves in battle. Some bosses though are EXTREMELY difficult, and if you aren't leveled up properly, these bosses will tear you to shreds. This game's dungeons enemies are on par with you, but the bosses are really hard. This kinda turns me off about this game.
The music in this game is not on par with some RPG's but towards the end of the game, the music is actually quite good. I wouldn't buy or download the soundtrack though.
There really isn't any sidequests in this game either, which is a rarity for SE.
All in all, the story is good, the characters are memorable, and the game really isn't that long even its 2 discs long. I beat it in like 55 hours, but 10 of that was leveling up. For the price tag of 30 bucks, it's really not a bargain, but for Grandia fans and SE fans, it is.
