The fastest game in history.

What can I say that already hasn't been said? This game is fast, very fast. You get a sensation of speed that is nearly unparalleled in the gaming universe. Nearly. It's also one of the most difficult racing games in the genre. You'll have to remember exactly how every track twists and turns. Where the curbs are. Speed checking and gears through the turns. Everything you have to do when you really are racing in the real. If you want to win at the higher levels you have to master all of these strategies to get to the podium. You have to hit the apex of bends in the straights at such a mind blowing gap to hit it perfectly to win.

But one of the best features of this game is when you will eventually screw up and go head first into a barrier. It's all hilarious, frustrating, and forgiving. Hilarious when you flip the car over a million times into all of the opponents around you, frustrating because you screwed up an easy bend, and forgiving because you can use the flashback feature. When you use this feature you can scan back in time up to a certain point in the race and try it again. You only get a certain amount of these per race and depending on which difficulty you choose anywhere from five to zero. It all depends on how confident you are.

The career mode has one of the best layouts ever in a racing game. You don't have to win every race in order to win cash. Of course if you win your purse is bigger, but they added a sponsorship element. If you complete there objectives then you get cash from them. It's an element that has been missing from racing all these long years and someone finally got the balls to put it in. They also added a teammate to the game. You hire drivers from around the world to help your team win. It's fantastic, if you are in the back of the pack and your teammate wins it still counts as a win. It also helps with the series points standing like to Formula 1. There are also many different ways to race. You can go to America and go to a demolition derby, Europe and race in a Formula car, or drift in Japan. You also get to race in a yearly Le Mans 24 hour race that's only 12 minutes long. It's a great added element to racing.

There are some things that aren't perfect. The AI leaves something to be desired sometimes and the tracks just don't have that sense of realism sometimes. For example the Eau Rouge corner in Spa can't be taken flat out but you can in this game. Another thing is the lack of depth in the cars. You can't really make them your own. You can change the paint and sponsors but you can't change the set up which is a must have for games this day and age and a damn shame it's not in here.

GRID offers a great racing experience in a world that is still waiting for Gran Turismo 5. It's beautiful to look at and the constant radio chatter from your team manager is a great touch. Highly recommended.
