Probably the best recreation of the Le Mans 24 since TD LM on PS1, and not a bad game either...

User Rating: 8.5 | GRID PS3
I started playing GRID just after it came out, and at first, I was disappointed, but I soon came to realize that although not as realistic as Race Driver 3, it is still a whole lot of FUN.

Presentation
GRID's graphics are stunningly realistic, the cars and tracks look great, the damage looks great and the sounds are terrific.

Cars/Real world Tournaments
The game features from memory around 60 cars, all of which are licensed race cars. Although there aren't many cars in some of the classes, this in part means there are a heck of a lot of classes. The only fully licensed real world series is the Le Mans Series and the 24 hours of Le Mans which, unlike Gran Turismo, features 4 classes on track like in real life. The game also features (with only one ore two cars available) F3 championships, classic muscle, WTCC cars, Dayton Prototypes and, to spice things up, demolition derby amongst others.

Tracks
GRID's track list does leave much to be desired. The only REAL tracks in the game are the LMS tracks in Europe, Okayama in Japan, and Long Beach in USA. The rest are very unrealistically dangerous street circuits.

Career Mode/Story
In GRIDS career, you start off driving for other teams until you can buy an old Mustang, then you do races to earn experience, money and sponsors to put on your car for extra bonuses (money), using this money to buy new cars. You gain experience in 3 regions, USA, Europe and Japan, which lead to better licenses and more events. Early in the game, you are also able to hire a teammate to earn you more money and so you can challenge for the teams title in championships.

Game-play
GRID plays like a semi-sim. The cars handle fairly realistically, but are also forgiving. There are quite a few difficulty levels, ranging from extremely easy, to B****y hard, and along with various assist options, you're bound to find one to suit. The races are always exciting, and close finishes are common. The AI at times however can be over-aggressive, which leads to some spectacular crashes. Thankfully, there is a re-wind feature, allowing you to rewind time up to about 15 seconds a limited number of times, undoing that massive crash you just caused...

One unfortunate thing however is a total lack of the great pitstop and qualifying features of Race Driver 3, your car never running out of fuel and your tires never wearing out, while grid positions are randomly selected.

Multiplayer
Unfortunately, this is something to avoid. The idiots that don't want to race properly are more common than in other racer, so if you want a game for it's multiplayer, then this is not your game due also to a strange lack of split screen.

Overall, this is a top racing game that is accessible, reasonably realistic, but importantly, fun.
