For everyone to enjoy

User Rating: 8.3 | Guilty Gear Isuka PS2
Guilty Gear Isuka has received quite the range of reviews from absolutely terrible to some of the best that the series has brought to its fans.

Though a continuation of the series, almost like an expansion pack, Isuka does add some great features for a fighting game. Simply put, the different modes of the game allow for both a single player and for a group of friends at once. One person can enjoy the game further than just missions and arcade mode like in the other games, like in the Boost mode (like a Guilty Gear/Final Fight mix) or in creating his/her own Robo-Ky to their liking. Contrastingly, many friends can get together to play against each other, something that the fighting game realm has benefited from - the simple pleasure of seeing the look on the person's face when you use that last tension move on them. Fighting games weren't meant for online play, and so Guilty Gear creates a flashy environment for up to 4 players.

What I have to say about other people's negative comments:
Comment: "Versus mode with 4 characters is more like chaos than a good fight."
My retort: Guilty Gear games have always been bright and flashy, whether it's the over-the-top blend of colors and backgrounds, or the moves that each character performs themselves. It takes a little more concentration and patience to get good at Isuka, since some battles can take longer, and there's a lot more on screen. However, it only detracts from play if the player him/herself has problems with their attention span or ability to process lots of information at once.

Comment: "The turn function is counter-intuitive and makes it too hard."
My retort: One of my friends said to me that this was his favorite thing to bash on people for. Was pressing down, then sliding to forward, and pressing a button intuitive for you when you started fighting games? It's utterly ridiculous to think that pressing a button to turn or to change from foreground to background makes this game unplayable. You just have to get used to it. It's a different kind of Guilty Gear.

Comment: "1-player mode sux, omfg. It's repetitive and boring."
My retort: If you like Guilty Gear, you get used to a certain one-player feature of consecutive one-on-one battles. If that isn't "boring" to you, I'm curious as to how fighting through several different missions against several different enemies amidst customizing your own character is as boring as you say it is. This game allows for a lot of player interactivity, and if you don't like the 1-player boost mode, just play the arcade mode. It's still there, just for you.

Overall, I think this game is highly underappreciated and overly criticized. The series continues to impress the real fans with excellent music, the signature Guilty Gear style, and some new innovations and characters that are nothing less than fun. If you like Guilty Gear games, then this game should definitely be in your collection.
