Sammy's Guilty Gear AE is far from the challenge typical of the fighter genre, taking an average 10 minutes to master.
This title has a total of 16 characters to pick from, two of them are unlockables after beating the game. Each character has it's own set of unlockable moves and supers that are available in Extra mode, a feature unlocked in survival mode. As far as other unlockables, there are only extra colours for costume edits and Original mode.
There are other modes of play that come standard with the title. These include Survival, Vs, 3-on-3, and Tag Match. All of these are self explanatory and their worth and difficulty are the same as the main Arcade run. Even though they give a variety of play style, they get boring quickly from the lack of challenge.
The game's training mode has an array of options players can alter. These options include how the opponent behaves through the battle, what play mode emulation is desired, health recovery, and other such. The entire mode alone is unnecessary. Once a fight begins, players'll have the moves of their chosen character down within seconds.
Graphically, the game's nice. The movements of the characters are fluid, their designs are good, and the backgrounds are well done. If only the same can be said about the music. The game's tracks fall into the typical fighter category, but are a long way from being good. While a few are decent, they don't sound as good as they could using the GBA's hardware. The sound effects are decent, but again, could be better much better.
For a fighting title, this game is KO-ed. If the difficulty could inch past what's typical of the competition, this game would be worth the miniscule playtime. As it stands, it isn't even complex enough to be called a time waster. Fighter fans are better off choosing a different title to invest in.
