New and enjoyable game modes along with challenges and Xbox-Avatar characters, yet something just seems disappointing.

Let's just say most of it is the same. There's still GHStudio, all instruments, DLC, online-play, and a large song list; yet, those songs could have been better. Only some of the songs contain long/difficult (notice I didn't say hard) solos that get you to play to your full potential, but for other songs, it's repetitive and not much fun. Many different genres were taken and put into the game in hopes that a larger variety of audiences would be satisfied, but if they were to have used songs like the ones in the original game such as "Bark At The Moon" or "Frankenstein", I think most, or just myself, would enjoy it more (even though you can import songs from Smash Hits and World Tour, both these songs are unavailable).

In order to get the full experience, you'll need to get online. By playing with others, it's competitive, fun, and not as boring as playing against/with the same people many times. Sometimes finding someone to play with using the matchmaking searches can take forever. Unless you have a group of friends or at least one, you may have to wait 2, 3, or 4 minutes; maybe, even longer.

As an additional hazard to online-play, finding members for Career or Quickplay makes it so there's any combination of instruments. There is no option to search for a standard band or not, and even if you do manage to find a standard band, then they will most likely not cooperate to your liking; or, they will probably fail at playing. This really sets it so you may need friends or people you know to help you get those achievements (such as "Crank It Up To 11"). Although, if you just wanted a standard band because you think it's more "realistic" or due to lack of instruments, then that's okay.

On the short-review side of the new GHStudio, its a decent update. Some features are easier to use and more accessible to those who've never used it before. Step-Recording can be a hassle if you mess up or want to skip a part and record something possibly a few beats later (as you'll have to go back to the main edit menu to move the "cursor" to the point you want then go back to Step-Record).

DLC is plentiful, with some free stuff, most songs costing only 1 or 2 dollars each, free downloads on GHTunes (User-Made), and song importing from Smash Hits and World Tour (although about half the songs from each are available).

There are many new game modes such as Streakers, Momentum, and Do Or Die (That's not all) which keep things new and more exciting. I really wish that they would put Battle Mode back as it is not available in this version and is only playable in GH3; and, this could be very fun for some of the new songs as well as DLC ones and imported songs.

Well, that's a slight taste of things for the new GH5, for full details on these topics and more, read my FAQ/Walkthrough here on GameSpot at:
