Pricey any way you cut it, but great nonetheless.

As the setlist came out song by song for this game, many people became progressively more disappointed. There weren't really many huge names on the list, which perplexed many, including yours truly to some extent. For instance, AC/DC was snubbed once again. Led Zeppelin was nowhere to be found. Et cetera. But as others despaired, I always said one thing: it doesn't matter how big the songs are, but how much fun they are to play.

Now that the game is out, I can't help but feel vindicated in holding that belief. Because as far as I'm concerned, the songs contained herein are just play fun to play, simple as that. In fact, I'd even go so far as to say that the few big tracks are, in general, less fun than the lesser-known tracks, and that I've been playing the latter a lot more than the former. I had never heard "Hold On Loosely" or "Shakin'", nor the bands that played them (.38 Special and Eddie Money, respectively), but I find both songs a huge amount of fun to play. And really, that's all that matters.

Now, I've heard many say that Harmonix got kind of lazy when it came to making this game. And to a large extent, I agree with them. The graphics bear a striking resemblance to Guitar Hero 2. The characters were redone, the sets were slightly revamped, and new selection screen images were created. But the feel itself is pretty well unchanged. Even the startup movie runs completely identically to the Guitar Hero 2 startup movie, which sort of raised my eyebrow. For this, I've docked Harmonix points in graphics, because just doing the same thing again isn't good enough in my books.

And there aren't any bonus songs, which was a notable change. I strongly agree that the game needs more songs, causing me to dock the game points in value. Though if you do the math, at $50 for 30 songs, this game is no more expensive than your average CD. But then again, I'd agree that CDs are also overpriced.

But laziness aside, this game is still a great play. Whether you should get it depends on who you are. Have you never played Guitar Hero before? You might want to pick up the other games before this one? Are you a casual Guitar Hero player? You might still look into this one. Are you a diehard Guitar Hero fan? Then you should definitely get this game.
