While I wasnt expecting a full on awesome guitar hero sequel, I was expecting something a bit more practical than the setlist offered in the latest game from Harmonix. If youve played GHII, then youll know the interface here, because its all exactly the same. Exactly. But cutting to the chase is the songs. 30 of em to be exact, and about 50% are not worthy of the "Rocks the 80's" label on the box. "I ran so far away"? "We got the Beat"? Are you kidding me? I was expecting some harder hitting tunes from Def Leppard, Whitesnake, or Motley Crue, but instead we get those songs??? Cmon guys, this isnt the first game in the series, people know what it is, and im sure licensing cant be THAT much of a problem still nowadays can it? And ultimately, the songs make or break the game. Too bad its flooded with a lot of songs that will make you think, "Who the heck are these guys?", and "This song is just not fun to play." I was expecting a much better setlist than this, and at $50, thats just asking way too much.
On the bright side though, there are some songs that are actually fun to play. Notable examples are from Iron Maiden, Poison, Billy Squier, The Police, Twisted Sister, and a few others, but overall, if you really need a Guitar Hero fix, this game may do, but I would wait until a price of around $30 comes around. Then it may be a tad bit worthwhile to buy this game.
