There are some fun songs in Rocks the 80s, but there just aren't enough to completely justify the price.

User Rating: 6.9 | Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s PS2
First of all, I'm a huge Guitar Hero fan. I admittedly bought this the day it came out. I was eager for some new songs after playing Guitar Hero II for all it was worth. I enjoyed playing the 30 songs of this 'new game,' but the price is about 20 dollars too much. That's one of the reasons I was disappointed. The other big letdown was the song difficulty. After taking the time to completely master the previous game, I wanted some challenge. The first 20 or so songs did not deliver on this front. Only 4 or 5 were hard to get a five-star rating on. The third and final thing that disappointed me was the lack of other new content. The characters have new outfits, but many of them have been cut out completely. Is it really that hard to use the same character models and give them a new coat of paint? I doubt it. It's the same case with the venues. Two great ones have been eliminated (Stonehenge and RedOctane Club), and the remaining 6 look basically the same. There are even less guitars than Guitar Hero II? When you're reusing old content, you might as well put in a little effort and include all the old content. However, I will keep playing this, trying to beat old scores, trying to ignore its shortcomings. Since the gameplay is still top-notch Guitar Hero, it remains a guity pleasure at the $60 (canadian) price tag.
