GH rocks the 80s is the same great game we all love, but its just dressed up 80s style and stripped of other features.
Now GH Rocks the 80s is more or less, too much for less, or it’s good enough for you. As this expansion for Guitar hero 2 is priced quite high for just 30 new songs from the 80s. But while you might have to get around the high price, GH rocks the 80s is a worthwhile game until GH3 comes by.
The gameplay is still as good as it’s ever been. Nothing has changed from Guitar hero 2. You still follow the same routine in playing, so it hasn't diminished a bit. However, nothing has really changed AT ALL from Guitar hero 2 to Rocks the 80s. But a few noticeable changes are that the characters are dressed in 80s attire, the menu looks 80s, and you have a new song list with 30 songs to play, all from the 80s decade. Plus, a few characters have been cut. Every guitar from the original game is here, there are no bonus songs, no videos, and practice mode is back. Now, if you can deal with the total rush Harmonix must have put with this game, you can still enjoy the relatively decent song list put together for the game. However limited it may be.
Rocks the 80s features songs ONLY from the 80s decade, and there are some recognizable hits such as ''I wanna Rock'' by Twisted sister, Holy Diver by Dio, (bang your head) Metal health by Quiet Riot, I ran (so far away) by Flock of seagulls and more. But there are definitely (unless you know almost any song from the 80s there is) some songs you will not recognize from this list. I never knew who wrote ''Turning Japanese'' or " Bathroom wall". Let alone Radar Love or The Warrior. But they will turn out fun whether you really expected them to be or not. And don't worry, rocks the 80s isn't all just an easy expansion, there are a few songs with quite insane solos that will keep you on your toes.
Now as always with guitar hero games, you might not worry about the graphics that much. You will be mostly paying attention to the notes onscreen. But to point it out, the graphics are still half-way decent. Nothing there has changed either. The venues are all the same, with a few tweaks here and there to make it look 80s, but it fails on many occasions. The best effort? The Harmonix arena, where there are multicolored lights and the huge skeleton is wearing 3D glasses. Not bad.
Overall, GH rocks the 80s might be forgotten once you get GH3, but it’s still the same great game we all love. Just with less songs, and lower value. -Verdugo
