Metal-Heads Unite...Its METALLICA!!
If you have ever played a guitar hero game at all, you will know how to play this game. Along with the guitar, they included the option of using the drums, and microphone as well, making the Metallica feel seem more complete. As far as difficulty, the game is pretty hard on many songs, which may come to the suprise of some GH players...maybe. The game is split into its classic difficultys; Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert, also including Beginer (which is great for the guy that has no idea what he is doing with the song), and Expert + (an added feature for drums which invloves a second bass pedal). As far as any career mode goes, the game sort of disappoints. Insted of the classic leveling of older GH games (passing all songs to move on), you now must get a certain number of stars to move on, which is pretty easy to do. The last song was really easy as well, not at all like is predacesers.
Online game modes are the same as past games, all with the same general objective in mind. No complaints here.
The other modes are really awsome to view as well. You can view videos of live Metallica songs, behind-the-scenes stuff, learn the lyrics, and something I thought was really cool was the Metalli-facts. Metalli-facts is a mode where you watch the pixilized band members play the song and along the bottom, captions will tell you about the song itself, from writing the song to how it was played and how it found its way onto the game. It was a very interesting mode which was a pretty cool thing to watch. Also included is the Music Studio where you can create your own music.
As far as presentation goes, this exceedes the presentation of past games. The look and actions are more realistic, getting more in the Metallica feel. Characters will interact with eachother, the camera, and the way they play the music, which made it look more like a real Metallica concert. The crowd look was great, and the pyro and lighting really made everything shine.
----------THE BOTTOM LINE----------
Guitar Hero : Metallica is the perfect game for any fan of the band, GH, or of thrash music in general. While the career mode may seem a little disappointing, all the other features and over all fresh feeling given by the game makes up for it. This is a great game for partys. Crank up the volume and ROCK. Definatly a game to hvae in your collection.
