This is THE best Guitar Hero game ever!
I will say though, that maybe the set list is just a LITTLE bit weak, as I was hoping for some Paramore or The All-American Rejects to name but a few bands. that being said, there are still amazing songs on the disk.
You may say that is a pretty silly thing to say, but personally I would replace a few of the songs on the disk for those. I have not yet played every song since I only got it yesterday, but I have played a lot of them and there are a few that are boring to play, personally. But the good outweighs the bad and there are some great songs for me such as My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay (I Promise), Sum 41 - Motivation, Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance and The Hives - Tick Tick Boom. But I can say that fans of other types of bands will definately enjoy the Rush - 2112 and the other epics no matter what genre you are a fan of, as is obvious with my choices.
Now, on to the reason why I classed this game as "Best in series". You see, this may very well be the best Guitar Hero game ever, except some songs from the previous games are better, but this is the best set list since Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock. But the game isn't best in the series because of the song list, the reason why is because everything has finally been upgraded and the presentation of everything is amazing. This game was developed perfectly and there aren't any flaws in this game. Sure, the music studio is exactly the same, but it is still an amazing feature and it is the best they are ever able to make it anyway. I like to think of this game as what Guitar Hero 5 should have been.
Even the career mode (Quest) has been upgraded and given a makeover! you actually want to play career mode now, rather than just jump straight in to Quickplay (which is called Quickplay+ this year, as there are challenges for each songs). There is a pretty cool story behind the Quest mode and it blows EVERY other Guitar Hero (and Rock Band)'s career mode out of the water. They definately spent time on that part of the game this year. The bit in the Quest mode that is all about the Rush song 2112 is amazing and it's told through a story, but I not say anything else about it other than look forward to that part especially, if you are to get the game :). The Quest mode strangely reminds me of Brutal Legend, but in Rhythm game form.
Speaking of Quickplay+, that is the new name for it. As I just said, this has also been upgraded. There are over a 1000 challenges for the songs as a whole to unlock, meaning if you want to fully complete the entire game, it will take you a LONG time. Don't worry though, as you can completely ignore said challenges and just play the Quickplay that you know and love.
There is also an handy game progress option (I forget the name) which tells you the % of the game you have completed and how to get the unlockables. For example, for the unlockable arenas, it may say 10% and how to get it. This is great if you want to get everything.
As far as I can tell thus far, there is no in-game shop or money (linked to Career/Quest mode), but I am actually glad in a way. It would be nice though if there were bonus songs, but that's nothing major.
There are also a bunch of powers for your characters in Quest mode that you can unlock the Warrior form of and their powers. I don't think you can use these out of Quest mode though, but to be honest, I wouldn't want to anyway.
One of the great things in this game that I always loved is the Create A Rocker option. You can now select from a bunch of pre-set faces, or, like previous games before it, you can also modify the faces. This is good because with the new pre-set faces it means you can make rockers without them looking exactly the same. I also spent an hour making a t-shirt again with the design option just like in Guitar Hero 5, so that's great. You should try it yourself... make a real rocker, use pictures on the internet for guideance and copy their look in that picture... it is fun!
I will say though that overall the Create A Rocker feature isn't amazingly different at all, it is mainly just the option to select pre-set faces, but they do look better. A lot of the clothes do return though, I will admit they need new ones as well. Hayley Williams' Ruckus jeans, for example, are still in there from World Tour. While I want these in the game to make certain characters, I do wish for a much larger clothing option overall next time. The lack of a normal hairstyle for male's is a bit disappointing though. I was trying to make Josh Farro from Paramore with his current, very basic haircut but I just couldn't.
I am not entirely sure how the online is on this one, but it does seem the same as Guitar Hero 5. There is still the countdown timer after the first person selects their song. I only had one game though as of yet, as I could only find ONE other player on Xbox Live. But as it was a day before pre-order, this wasn't surprising. I am looking forward to playing in a full band today.
Overall, Guitar Hero has gotten an upgrade, even if it's not an AMAZING amount, but enough to make it seem like a fresh, new game. The Quest mode is amazing and I can't wait to get started on the song challenges as well. The set list is also awesome, and the presentation of the whole game just feels a whole lot better. If you LOVE these games, then I definately, DEFINATELY recommend you pick this one up. If you are just a casual fan of the Guitar Hero games and own the odd ones for example, I recommend you check out the set list first, but if I were you I would still recommend picking it up as it has been improved and all these new features seem like they may become a permanent part in future Guitar Hero games.
The original PS2 Guitar Hero to Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock was a part of the first generation of Guitar Hero games, World Tour was the mark of a new generation, and once again, Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock is the start of a new generation... the third generation.
As I said before the set list could have been a LITTLE bit better for me, but it is still great and all the new features and upgrades make one rocking game!
I give this game a 9.0/10!
