GONNA BE A GUITAR HERO!

User Rating: 9.3 | Guitar Hero PS2
For years, music games we're dominated by Dance Dance Revolution, SingStar, and other games of the sort. But, Harmonix broke the mould with Guitar Hero.

The game's main way to play is with a mini SG Gibson guitar, with five coloured buttons, a start button, a select button, a whammy bar, and a strum bar. This controller allows you to play from a list of rock songs, which may not be the most famous songs ever, but hold their own and will have you searching your local music store to find them all.

You can play career, which will help you unlock new songs, new characters, and more, by getting money, the amount is based on your performance during the song. Five stars is for 95% notes hit and a huge score, 80% for four stars, 60% three stars, 45% two stars, and 20% or lower for one star, and finally, failing the song altogether. There is a huge list of songs, all varying in diffuculty and length, which are loads of fun to play. You can play as one of eight characters (two which are unlockable), each which represent some form or decade of rock, from Izzy Sparks who represents the 80's, to Johnny Napalm, who represents punk rock. Each character can play all the songs, which are all covers by Harmonix's band, Monkey Grabs The Peach. You'll notice some differences in the song, but it may be for the better, as some songs may have a new guitar solo thanks to Harmonix. If you have a regular controller, or another guitar controller, you can play two-player with your mates, which is loads of fun with two experienced players. At first, the game is insanely hard, and you'll probably fail "Smoke On The Water" a few times until you get the hang of it. The songs are delivered to you in chunks of five, and you can play them in any order to proceed to the next location and a new set of songs. You can go back and play old songs, though you will not get more money for replaying old songs, or playing unlockable songs, so you should make the first time count, or practice in "Quick Play" a few times before attempting the Career mode. The game is insanely fun once you have the hang of it, and you won't be able to put it down.

Guitar Hero is the greastest music game in my memory, and even though is missing a few crucial rock songs, it is one of those games which you must buy if you own a PS2.
