Must for any music fan! Rhythm gaming at a new level of kewl.
User Rating: 9.6 | Guitar Hero PS2
When I first heard about Guitar Hero, I thought it was going to be some half-assed attempt to make a rhythm game. But after I got my hands on it, that thought left my mind completly and never returned. Guitar Hero is one of the best music games to come out since DDR first arrived. The song list is packed with big name hits like Black Sabbath, Queen, Eric Clapton, Judas Priest, and the prince of darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne. The tutorial does a good job introducing you to the new guitar shaped controller the the game comes with. The controller has five fret buttons of different colors, a strum bar, and a wammy bar that you use during game play. the notes will fly towards you DDR style and you need to hit the right fret and strum at the same time in order to complete the song. At first this can be a little tricky, but you quickly pick up on controls and it just gets harder and more challenging from there. Unlockables are very abundent in this game with characters, guitars, videos, and additional songs avalible to be unlocked from playing the sigle player mode. If you have a second guitar controller you and a friend can go head to head in the multiplayer mode. Here you each get play the same song, but you play different sections of the song. This can get a little tedious because some of the songs aren't evenly matched for the different sections. So, you can get an easy part while your friend gets the hardest part of the song. I still have a few bruses from the last match. Over all, Guitar Hero is a great game. The music and style all fit well with great controls. If you have a PS2 and some cash to burn, its not a bad choise.
