Finally a good Robotech rip off…

User Rating: 7 | Gun Metal XBOX
Gun Metal at first glance is very similar to the Anime series Robotech but that’s about where the similarities end. The Gameplay is very decent indeed. The game starts you off with basic weapons as it throws you strait into combat with the new secret experimental weapon, codenamed “Gunmetal” although that storyline has been used by almost every mech show, movie and game it still does it nicely. It may take a bit to get into the controls as this was originally a PC game and the controls didn’t translate well. (luckily you can pick between some types and how to invert aims.) the game plays out mission by mission, each mission has an objective. The objectives usually sound easier then they actually are… but for the most part no mission should take more then 10 minutes if done right. And as with most games the one vs. armies of enemies with more firepower rules still apply.

The in-game music is vaguely familiar from something I can’t put my finger on but still good. The voice overs are really just one guy barking orders at you in an angry fashion even when you do great… the sound effects are spectacular for what they are. Jets for planes, shooting various weapons, explosions, and the like.

The graphics are pretty darn good for an early XBOX game, there isn’t much else to say about them other then, the environments are interactive which means you can destroy buildings, knock over trees and make animals explode! (don’t worry, the animals in the game are already extinct so you aren’t killing anything that isn’t dead already)

Last two things I feel needs mentioning is that the missions are pretty tough unless you try them a few times before you can fully do what it asks (which is usually the impossible) and second, the game is super short compared to almost every other game ever… this is a definite rent if you don’t want to own games you’ll never play….

Here are some pros and cons for those who don’t like reading.
PROS
Great gameplay
Good visuals
Game for those with a low budget

CONS
Far too short
Varying difficulty usually into super-hard
NO MULTI-PLAYER!
