A Western flavoured action game with some defects that (probably) won't prevent you to enjoy many hour of fun
Gun is a third/first person action game, with some FPS elements and a few RPG elements. Interesting mix? Hell no! Too much "elements" for a single sentence.
The lacks of the game immediately comes to the eyes and hands of the player. The game graphic is low, even considering that it actually has almost 5 years, and the commands on the joypad are really uncomfortable, and require some time to make you feel ok with them.
At the beginning, I thought that this game was going to be short. I don't know why, but it looked to me like an easy, bad-made game. I was totally wrong. Gun has a very good longevity, if you play some (or all) the secondary missions, and can entertain you for a bunch of weeks.
The best merit of the game is the setting. A pure 100% Far West setting, with a very cool -even if classical- story full of Indians, bad and good cowboys, Spanish treasures and evil confederate guys hunting them. All the characters are interesting, and the main character is a cool severe-but-just-hero like His Majesty Clint Eastwood.
The game dynamics are really easy. You can run, ride a horse (very useful to move in the game area, which is, by the way, pretty much big), shoot with several weapons (from the Indian arc to the shotgun) on both third and first person, and activate a "bullet time!" modality where you can shoot with the weapon that gives the name to this game... the flamethrower. ahah. No seriously, the gun.
On the audio part, Gun has a really awesome and epic main theme, but generally lacks... but not too much, after all.
The main quest missions are amazing, and even if sometimes they may seem a little hard, the game has lots and lots of checkpoints -so you won't loose the last three hours of playing if you die. That's one thing that I seriously love in a game.
The secondary quests are vitally for your survival, because they will allow you to buy some upgrades for your weapons and to improve your characteristics, like precision and riding skills. There are several forms of secondary mission: men hunting (very funny!), pony express (basically horse rides, quite funny), peace keeping (a mixture of different tasks, incredibly funny!), Texas hold'em (total fun), some farm works (yes, nice...) and animal hunting (yes, nice...).
Oh yes, you may also feel the need to search for the gold mines scattered all around the game area. Ok, a good adding, but... 44??? 15 would have been enough.
Concluding, I started to play Gun with few hopes and, as I say in the beginning, I ended up liking it. If you

Buy it! It will give you many days of fun, New Mexico-style.
