Gun is one of the few games that can blantantly copy another popular series, but still seem fresh and original. The game is little more than a Wilder West Grand Theft Auto, but it stays entertaining throughout. The graphics are impressive and do a good job of setting the tone and atmosphere for the game. While the 360 version may be more polished, the PS2 more than holds it own. In my opinion, the graphics are far superior to those found in most games of this genre. The sound and voice acting are done very well. the game actually feels like an old Western movie with a better plot. The dialouge and cutscene material is gritty and is not suitable for children, but it is all high quality. Gun is a typical free-roaming open world game. You must finish certain objectives to move the story along, but are in no way rushed to do so. The various side missions offer a fun diversion and will keep players occupied for as long as they choose. The selectable difficulty levels make the game accessible to gamers of all levels. While gameply may be similar to the GTA series, the controls are actually a bit better. The action is faster, but the controler responds quicker and there are no framerate issues. Different shooting strategies allow gamers to switch between first and third person shooting action, which keeps the gameplay fresh. I was pleasantly surprised by this title, and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Gun is simply a great new take on one of the most popular genres in gaming today. At it's current reduced price, I recommend any shooter or GTA fan give this one a try.
