FAST paced adventure
Gun has a free-roaming based environment that includes two major "hot spots" which include the cities of Dodge and Empire. Overall the world of Gun is very pretty tiny, but satisfying none the less. The area has no definite location, through out the story they mention the Northern Rockies, and the plains of Kansas, each of which are a 30 sec ride from each other. Traveling around the world of Gun is very simple, but very entertaining and appropriateā¦.Horses of course. In this game horses are a dime a dozen, you can not "own" your own pony, but it doesn't damage the gameplay because they are lying around everywhere, never will you be in a situation where you find yourself stranded without a horse. On the negative side, having your own personal horse would be a tad more interesting, and being able to customize your horse would be kind of cool. There are two types of missions, main story, and of course side missions which has its own sub-categories. You won't find a better story in a video game. You will constantly be taken through twist and turns of various degrees, constantly introducing new allies and enemies and you won't be disappointed by the action. Leaving the main story aside for you to find out, the side missions are also fun. These side missions, or mini games include poker tournaments, pony express duties, rescues, lawman, hunting and ranching. Although there is a nice variety, the side missions do get a little repetitious. Do keep in mind though that these missions (along with the main missions) produce additions to stats and of course cash so you can buy various weapon, health and horse upgrades, it gives it a RPG feeling as it also gives you a rating accordingly. Another way to make money to mine gold, there are 44 gold nodes scattered through out the map at $10 a pop. They are very easy to find, I found 42/44 of them without doing any major searching.
The weapons in Gun a very entertaining as well, you start out slow with the basics, knife for melee, pistol and rifle. You have an infinite amount of ammo for the pistol categories, but with others there are various pickups that fill them up. Types of weapons included are Rifles (your most likely going to do the majority of the killing with this) Shotguns (I rarely use them, but you get a brutal sever barrel at the end of the game which is fun) Bows (you need these to carry out the hunting side missions), Melee, Snipers (again not often used) and you can also buy a scalper from the vendor in Dodge which allows you to scalp critically wounded bad guys, it is useless, but it's fun if your just in "one of those" moods. Through some of the story missions you get to use the big guns, including a canon, and a machine gun. If your into gore you will be satisfied, at first it isn't very apparent, but once you get the better rifles, and upgrade kits, you'll have heads and shoulders flying about every which way.
Overall gun is a very good game although it is short and the graphics aren't astounding in makes up for it with depth, and outstanding voice acting. Hopefully they will make a sequel to this, some things I would like to look forward to include customizable options, maybe some different uniforms, able to own your own horse, larger environment, better visuals for sure, little better side missions, but you can leave combat style with out change. They make PS3 and X360 versions, but at $60 it really isn't worth it, if you can find it elsewhere I would defiantly invest.
