A crazy side-scrolling game that doesnt quite justify the 800 point purchase.

User Rating: 7.2 | Gunstar Heroes GEN
Gun Star Heroes is a wild side-scrolling shooter that resembles Metal Slug, but with more enemies. In fact, on some levels hundreds of enemies will swarm you, luckily you can easily kill them with a single shot from your weapon. The game mixes the gameplay up a bit by adding a few selectable weaponry. For example you can use lightning, flame, rapid fire, or homing guns that all handle differently. There are also upgrades you can pick up one levels that will greatly enhance the effectiveness of your weapon. One of the problems is that there are alot of enemies, which may sound cool, but they literally storm you and you have to constantly push forward which can be tedious, but adds a good feel to the game. The game itself isnt too hard, you have a life gauge of 100 and every time an enemy hit you, depending on what weapon, it can take off 7-30 life. The boss battles are pretty cool because each boss is different. But they are usually beaten very quickly if you use the overpowering fire weapon.

There are roughly 4 different stages you can go to. It takes around 10-20 minutes for each stage, not counting re-trying. Each stage has around 3 bosses to fight and plenty of enemies to keep this game anywhere from boring. It doesnt seem to get repetetive after extended periods of play, but its sudgested you dont play the whole game through one sitting, and rather come back for small periods of play. The graphics look swell on the wii and hold up from its arcade original. Its got some good classic techno music to keep things lively and the sound effects are on track. This game is a pretty fun experience but just doesnt seem worth 800 points. It is pretty short and has no replay value what so ever, no leaderboards, not even tracked high scores. The game is very fun and rather addicting but doesnt seem like a quality purchase.

Overall if your just itching for a good vc game then go with this. If your not that interested or not exactly a fan of the genre then I dont recommend this. It isnt really worth the 800 point purchase but will keep you occupied when your bored.
