I dont say this a lot, but GS was wrong on this one. This game is phenominal and I have only played about 10 hours worth. Whom ever rated this game was way off and let me tell you why: Lets talk the best part gameplay-- The combat system is simple yet effective. Buttons are mapped out in the easy and simpliest way possible. You dont have to fight monsters or you can choose to sneak up on them there are just different ways to do it. You have simple attacks, combos, a Rengeki attack ( a great special where you can choose one of four attacks), a group attack, and Avatar battles which are kinda like summons. You'll deffinately get enjoyment out of battling in this game. Other than that its your standard thing, with the fact that you take this as it is immitating an MMORPG which Ill explain later. The Graphics -- Wow for a PS2 game this thing is beautiful. Its kind of a cel shade regular graphic blend. The characters are well drawn, the details are nice, there are anime style videos, and many other type of media. The enemies could be more creative, but they get the job done. The graphics are way better than the original .hacks which werent bad to begin with. The style though is more dark and mature than what they were in the first four. There are dazzaling lighting effects and the like to keep battle interesting.

The music is very good thus far. Catchy tunes, memorable song, and voice acting which is standard fair now in RPG's. Moving onto Voice acting its a mixed bag as it usually is. From the high pitched to the over bearing those voices are here. The actors get the job done and that all you need. No ear aches, yet no unbelieveable dialouge. So the sound in this right is a good not great thing.

The Story is epic indeed. It has the history behind it already of four actual game so you have a history an actual history and not hearsay or made up story. It is also based on something everyone knows which is brilliant MMORPGs. It like this sparing all the past game you are Haseo, you enter the online game of "The World" you meet some people and for the sake of spoliers something happens that teaches you a valuable lesson. There things known as PK or Player killers then there are things called PKK's Player Killer "Killers". It get complicated yes I know this all sounds zany when it was explained to me it was hard to follow. When I actually played it for the first hour I was blown away well not FF7 or FF4 or Chrono blown away but it was indeed intriuging. This is where the game is the strongest there so much to the story its just crazy. You even can log off the world and check email and things with real working news clips and all. The replay value on this one im guessing is high and with the Vol 1 in ita title im sure to get the next few. So please buy this one even if FF12 is coming out. Try this one it took me by suprise and if not for a recommendation by a gamestop clerk I wouldnt have tried it. I recommend it too. PEACE ALL!!
