I had got into that halo series as simple as just playing it from my buddies xbox, and before I knew it, I had mastered the basics, almost a year after the release, I had bought my xbox, and this was my first game I acutally purchased and I have from this day, over 300 hours of game play on it.. I do agree that the online is definently the best part of this game, if you dont have xbox live, you will not be able to get the full fun factor of this game... you MUST have this game if you have or plan to have an xbox.. still the best game for the xbox
