I can't say that I am altogether upset with Halo 2, but I can say that I was expecting more (at least on the campaign). Stepping back and looking at it as a whole I have to compare it to a Star Wars sequel (1970's): the first one absolutely blew you away while the second one just capitalized on the first with a few new goodies. I am only going to focus on one aspect of this game for review sake.... I am about 75% done with the campaign in Halo 2 and I have yet to find a place that is perfect for using my favorite weapon: the sniper rifle. Aside from fighting the Flood the game seems to beg for the battle rifle or the plasma rifle as optimum weapons. I miss zooming in with the pistol or finding a wide open area for a cookout with the bazooka. Don't get me wrong - there are certain points where the bazooka flourishes, but they are very short stints before it is better to just drop the thing and start using a batle/plasma rifle again. There were many open zones in the first Halo where any weapon of your choice would work great - not so anymore :( Many of the spaces are too confined to break out the sniper rifle for more than a shot or two. With the game being more fast paced than the first, I am more inclined to carry faster weapons (with bigger ammo supplies) at all times instead of a slower sniper rifle or bazooka. Maybe people enjoy the ability to run through the game without much variation on the controller. I for one believe that a shooter game is defined by its armnament, and although Halo 2 has a good variety of guns I do not feel the environment gives enough to fully capitalize on that variety. I will probably play through the campaign again, and maybe my opinion will change the second time through. As a whole I think the game is definitely worth owning - especially for the multiplayer aspect. If I hadn't played the first one, I would have given Halo 2 a mind-blowing review!
