I have been playing this series ever since Halo : Combat Evolved came out back in 2001, and I can honestly tell you that this one is the best. First, the Campaign delivers on all levels, somehow making legendary even harder than in Halo 2. Well, that is unless you play with some of your buddies. That is something else great about this game. The four player co-op play is amazing, and I really like the way Bungie gives you different characters to play as instead of playing as four Master Chiefs. The only real complaint I have with the single player, and the reason I didn't give this game a ten is one of the boss fights. I just can't see a decent fight involving Guilty Spark sitting motionless and shooting the occasional laser beam at you. Other than this the campaign is pretty much perfect, and the ending is much, MUCH better than I thought it was going to be. It completely ties into what Bungie has been trying to do with the series. Make sure that once you beat the game, that you wait until you watch the video AFTER THE CREDITS. Now, as far as multi player goes, it takes Halo 2 and kicks it up about 20 notches. Not only is matchmaking more refined, but the forge and theater features make the game last that much longer. Also, the new ranking system is the best I have seen in a long while. Not only do you get skill points based on how you play, but you also get experience points that depends on how much you play. This way, if you aren't very good, you can still get satisfaction from the game. To be honest, if this isn't the game of the decade, I will be severely disappointed.
