I was just expecting a pretty good shooter... I was wrong...

After purchasing my X-Box I immediately asked the man at the counter for a copy of Halo: Combat Evolved after hearing such great things about it. I had witnessed a video showing some game-play and I wasn’t too impressed but interested. I wasn’t really expecting much, just another shooter, right? Well I was wrong. With delight I hooked up my X-Box and put in Halo: Combat Evolved hoping to play for a couple hours. Well I actually played all evening, about six hours straight and this game just hooked me. I hadn’t played a shooter this much fun since Goldeneye (Perfect Dark was not my thing). Anyway so I won’t go too much into detail on the story of Halo but it starts out, our ship is the last surviving ship of a full-scale attack on the human colony Reach. After the Fall of Reach (which is book by the way) and your ship becomes under attack by the same enemies that destroyed Reach, the Covenant. They are simply an alien race that really reminds of the Protoss from Starcraft if you’ve ever played it. And the game sort’ve is built on the same lines of Starcraft except as a different genre. You play the role of the Master Chief a special soldier, part of the Spartan II project. The game develops well as you continue with story. The game runs at 30 frames per second but it isn’t that bad because I felt that I got used to it quite quickly. The game graphically besides that it looks very nice. Nice textures and an almost solid frame-rate throughout the game (There was actually only one case where it slowed down for me). There is a great amount of detail and the world of Halo truly looks alive. The sound is great and the game comes with an amazing musical score. The game isn’t short and my first play-through came around 20 hours, which is pretty decent when it comes to shooters. Multiplayer is blast with system-link hook-up which really brings up on the replay value. This game really doesn’t getting boring very often. It’s one of those games that you can just pick up and play your favourite levels. All in all this game is great. I loved the ending in the final sequences and when I finished I didn’t want to quit there and I went through again on Heroic mode and it was an entirely different experience. And don’t get me started on Legendary. The game provides suitable length, amazing gameplay, superb graphics and great musical score. Simply put this is still my favourite game on the X-Box even after playing through many other games and would definately appear on my top-ten list.
