Fun yet repetitive single player, amazing multiplayer.
User Rating: 9.6 | Halo (Xbox Collection) XBOX
Let's get to business. I loved this game. The game centers around master chief, an elite warrior and the last hope for the human race, battling the covenant on his assigned space-station, soon followed by a crash landing on halo, a mysterious ring-world. The main goal of the game is to destroy halo. Gameplay: This game... well, let's face it, it doesn't do much new. However, what it does it does absolutely right. The control scheme has basically been adopted as the default for console shooters. The guns are balanced well to the strengths and weaknesses of your enemies, and the pistol serves as a useful tool for any situation. A pistol user can take down a shotgun in close quarters combat as well as a sniper from long-distance. This ensures that kills come down to the player with the most skill, not the player with the better weapon. Grenades are integrated perfectly and feel just right. The jump is a little floaty, but who really cares? One other small problem is that your marine allies fall much too easily on the harder difficulties, and only seem useful in a warthog or with a rocket launcher, in which case they are virtually invincible. I give the gameplay a 10. Graphics: The graphics in Halo were amazing at the time, and they still hold up well to this day. The outdoor environments are especially memorable for their great sense of scale, while the indoor portions of the game feel much too repetitive for their own good. I honestly can't remember ever walking through this many bland, uninspired hallways an any other game. However, I really didn't find myself paying much attention to these. I give the graphics an 8. Sound: Everything sounds great from the explosions to the vehicles to the powerful-sounding weapons. I give the sound a 9. Value: You're sure to get tons of re-playability out of the multiplayer or just playing the single player over and over again. 10. In conclusion, Halo: Combat Evolved is a great game, revolutionary in the same respect as goldeneye was for the N64, and it has helped the xbox to become what it is today. 9.6. Amazing.
