What FPS games are all about.

User Rating: 10 | Halo (Xbox Collection) XBOX
Halo has been called one of the greatest shooters ever since its 2001 release by a countless number of gamers and critics, and I am one of them. I can safely say that Halo is not only an amazing shooter, but an amazing game in every aspect, and it still holds up to this very day.

What is it about Halo that makes it so damn fun? Is it the stellar FPS gunplay and controls that make pulling off headshots as easy as pie, and yet you still feel proud after you've landed said headshot? Maybe. Is it the beautiful music, serene visuals, and top-notch sound design? Maybe. Is it the fantastic third-person driving mechanics, the grand level design, gripping storyline, and the intelligent AI? Or, is it all of the above? It is.

Halo is a near flawless combination of the greatest aspects of every first person shooter, sci-fi movie, and i absolutely rocks in every sense of the word. The campaign spans over 10 levels each taking at least an hour to beat (depending on the difficulty) and four difficulties to give the game replay value. Each level takes place in an environment that's almost entirely different from the last. From snow covered valleys, to the inside of an alien ship, Bungie does their best to keep the levels from getting stale, and they almost succeed. The only level that gets dull is the level known as the Library. It goes on far too long, and each hallway looks almost identical. It doesn't ruin the game, but it sticks out as a weak link among the rest of the levels. The arsenal of weaponry consists of a variety of weapons. From human rifles and handguns, to alien needle guns, the weaponry is varied and every gun is fun to shoot. The storyline and art design are influenced heavily by sci-fi films and novels, but they never feel derivative or boring. The story will keep you interested from level one, all the way to the secret ending after the credits. The music is absolutely astounding for this type of game, and every battle theme will get you pumped and ready for action. The multiplayer is reminiscent of games like Goldeneye and Doom, and it is extraordinarily fun when you have four people to play it with.

Halo is a near masterpiece of modern gaming (I'd give it a 9.8 if the site would let me) and it still lives up to its insurmountable amounts of hype. I recommend Halo to anyone wishing to spend countless days and nights battling aliens and parasites till their magazines run dry.
