A solid game with good values, but if you're not a fan of first person shooters this probably won't change your mind.

Being somewhat of an adamant Sony and Square-Enix fan I found myself in a strange position playing the very game that I had insulted for so many years. I could be heard calling the X-Box a "graphics machine with nothing but 'first person shooters' and 'fighters'" and while for the most part this remains true, having only a few other titles for the machine I consider noteworthy, that's not necessarily a bad thing as Bungie proves in Halo. I've never been a big fan of first person shooters and I'm still not, even after playing Halo, but it indeed the game is worthy of all the acclaim that it has received from critics and casual players alike.

Halo has very nice graphics, though nothing I would consider "stunning" since it is very obviously of the 2001-2005 generation of games. The music is very ominous and energetic at times, the voice acting is nothing I'd complain about and in fact probably I'd compliment, and the sound effects are perfect for this particular game. The game itself is fun at times, funny at times and extremely challenges at times, even on "Easy" which I had to switch to at one point because "Normal" was proving to be quite difficult. The first person shooter part is executed quite well and challenging, but the real glaring problem for me was the driving. The control scheme for driving was a bit unusual as it uses the two analog sticks to move around, using the left analog stick to accelerate and the right analog stick to steer. This leads to a very troublesome driving experience including the final chapter of the game.

Overall a very solid game and even though it has not won a place among my favorite games of all time, it will surely please any who are ardent fan of first person shooters and probably some that are not.
