I never had an Xbox before i got this game quite frankly never wanted one. Even after three years of going along my buisness playing my RTS games(long live C&C) with everyone else just going crazy over this game I had no interst in Halo or the Xbox. Then my dad as if possesed strolled into Best Buy one day and bought the dang thing (He bought it for the newly launched Halo 2 but the everso nagging emplyee insisted that we get the original first.). At first I was shocked. Why the Box? but when we brought it home I played it and was just mezmerized. You know, I was never a big FPS fan untill then but something about the game just cried out "@#%$ING AWSOME!" Anyways, now that most of you have probably already left let's get down to why this game is so great.
The Gameplay is great. In fact just ever so barely worthy of a ten out of ten. I like the scenery and absolutely loved the concept of a ring world. What really bogged the gameplay down was the weapon system. Whoever thought that a half ton cyborg can't holster two pistols sling a rocket launcher over his back and carry an assault rifle should have been shot the moment his idea got out.this two weapons limit is B.S. Sure, no one can carry a rocket launcher, a sniper rifle, two pistols, an assault rifle, a needler, and a plasma rifle, BUT no one couldn't carry at least three things. Hell people even do that in the real world. Other than that the gameplay's great.
The graphics are good. I guess since I'm writing this review in 2005 (pos 360 launch) I can't say they are superb but it still deserves that because it wasn't mad in 05. The play time run nearly perfect. there are a few rough edges. Some of the cut scenses can be a bit ugly but overall it's pretty damn good.
Simply put. Halo has the best music of any video game. I like good music in a game. It can set the mood and a make a good moment a memorable one and it can really put you in the mood. Pretty much all other aspect of sound quality are superb.
Do you have a Box. If you do, then get it. some say it's worth buying the Xbox just for that game. Yea....sure. I suppose if you value your leasure time that much then it is but one game costing damn near 200. Oh well you can also get this game on PC if you don't have the Box and it's only twenty bucks. Plus you can use banshees in multiplayer mode and you get the flamethrower and the fuel rod. You also get the rocket hog for the PC version. So if you don't have the Box, that would be the way to go I think. In fact. The only thing the Box version has over the PC/MAC version is its better overall gameplay do to the fact the using a mouse and keyboard to run and gun absolutely SUCK!!!
Aren't Tilt, gameplay, and value pretty much the same thing? Oh well. If you've had the patience to read this far then you'd know that I love the game and would recommend it to anyone with an Xbox or PC/MAC.
