Halo: Combat Evolved is MOST DEFINATELY an outstanding game. But being called the best FPS ever sorta goes a bit too far
Halo for the Xbox is unquestionably outstanding in every sense of the word. From the start, you wuickly learn u can only carry 2 weapons and a few grenades. This limitation is actually a good thing cuz it forces you to think tactically. The A.I. in the game is amazing, by far the best i have seen in a game. Enemies duck behind rocks for cover, they charge at you when they are cornered or they can even flank you. The weapons in the game, although good, dont feel satisftying and fun to use (except for the Assault Rifle which is my personal Favorite.) Though the Human weapons are somewhat fun to use, None of the Covenant Weapons are Intersting. They just dont have that "oomph" that makes guns so fun to use. The same goes for the Vehicles. The human vehicles are fun to use but the Covenant Vehicles, i didnt find as much fun. Another bad thing with Halo is the large levels. The levels are so huge and expansive that it is very easy to get ureself lost and u end up not knowing what to do until after a while the game points out the direction for you. When it comes to Multiplayer, I have to give it to Halo for pulling it off so well. I havent seen this many Options in a multiplayer game since Goldeneye. The possibilities are endless in Halo Multiplayer.
Graphics
Halo sports sum outstanding Graphics. The Levels are incredibly Huge and Expansive, the weapons are highly Detailed and the character animations are highly believable. The downside is that, as great as the grpahics look, im not seeing alot of detail in the environments. They have good detail to an extent, but not quite enough to merit a 10/10.
Sound
The Sound effects in Halo are excellent. The weapons all sound the way they should and in the midst of battle, you can hear your teammates or ure enemies talking amongst themselves thus adding to the immersion. Halo sports sound effects that can easily rival Hollywood.
Value
Halo is by far the best game anyone can get for a fair price. The game has phenomenal replay value thanx to the incredibly smart AI and the highly customizable Multiplayer.
Tilt
Halo is without doubt an excellent game. It Pulls off so many things beautifully and is definately worthy of great praise. However, as great a game Halo is, to be called the greatest game ever created would be over exagerating. The Game doesnt exactly revolutionize the Genre. With that said, Halo: Combat Evolved is a game no Xbox owner should be without.
