If you have Half-Life 2, you might've played Codename:Gordon. It was a fanmade side-scrolling shooter of Half-Life 2. You had most of the memorable weapons from Half-Life 2, 2-D cartoony graphics, it was free and fun while it lasted. Same pretty much goes for Halo Zero. It's somewhat based on the book, The Fall Of Reach, or so I hear. Most enemies are easy to kill and it's a really quick game. Might want to pump the difficulty up if you wanna have some fun with it. A lot of the weapons have a short supply of ammo, so you'll wanna rely on saving it for hunters and Elites and melee everything else. It has multi-player but you have to know the right IP adress to play. Fun if you have nothing else to do.
